6 Best Car Phone Chargers – Reviews & Buying Guide To Get The Right One
The presence of smart phones have exploded in the market over the last decade. With Tech powerhouses like Apple and Microsoft leading the rest of the pack, a large variety of phone accessories have emerged over the last several years. One of the most important phone accessories are car phone chargers.
While there are many different types of phone chargers to select from, each are different in their own way. Some are higher quality and charge faster and some aren’t. We’ve compiled a comprehensive guide on how to buy the best car charger that both fits your needs and budget.
Car Phone Charger Buying Guide
Car phone chargers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some will support certain phones and some won’t. It’s important to be on the lookout for the details when you’re looking for the best car phone charger.
You’ll often encounter a lot of technical jargon. Ignore those, and pay attention to these features instead:
Look For Compatibility
Not every car phone charger will support the phone that you have. Apple and Android phones will usually get the most leeway as far as compatibility goes simply because they’re the most popular types of phones owned.
On the package, look for what types of phones the car phone charger is compatible with. Keep in mind that chargers are designed to be compatible with a specific version and model of a phone. If the packaging says compatibility with Apple iPhones, it doesn’t necessarily mean all Apple iPhones.
Pay Attention To The Amps
Some car phone chargers will work faster than others, and that’s thanks to the amp output. The most common types of amps that you’ll see today are: 1.0, 2.1, and 2.4. The higher the amp, the quicker your phone will charge.
Corded or USB?
Many of today’s car phone chargers are usually USB based. However, there are still some chargers out there that are corded.
Working with either a corded or USB charger will be decided based on preference. We highly recommend USB since it’s the standard norm and provides more flexibility as far as compatibility goes.
Number of Sockets (USB Chargers)
If you’ve decided that a USB based charger is your choice, check for the number of sockets available. While 1 socket may be enough, consider more sockets if you often have guests in your car. Taking turns charging each other’s phones may prove to be problematic especially if you’re all out on a trip that requires constant use of your phones.
Top Car Phone Chargers
The Maxboost 4.8A/24W 2 Smart Port Car Charger is one of the most popular car phone chargers out in the market. For the price you pay, you get unrivaled benefits that its competitors don’t have. In addition to being compatible with a large share of the smartphone market, it also comes with 2 USB sockets as well as an intelligent circuit design that protects against over-heating, short-circuiting, and more.
We’ve had the pleasure of testing this car charger out and we were all able to charge our phones at quick speeds with no issues. Although we had a great experience with the Maxboost, our charger did blow out on us after a couple months of use.
We reached out to customer service to get it replaced, and while we did replace it eventually, we didn’t do it without a struggle. For the price, we couldn’t really complain, and we’d definitely buy it again in the future.
Overall, taking into consideration the price we paid and the experience we got, we would still give the Maxboost 4.8A/24W 2 Smart Port Car Charger 5 stars out of 5. It sucked that our charger blew out but we get what we pay for. It is still highly worth it.
Next up on our list is the Noot Products iPhone Car Charger. Thankfully, the majority of our team all have iPhones; testing this car charger was not an issue. There were a lot of things we liked about this charger, and there were some we didn’t like.
We’re going to talk about some of the things we didn’t like. This car charger is designed for iPhones, but we found out that it didn’t support older models of the phone. It only supports iPhones as old as the iPhone 5 and some of us have iPhone 4s.
While it wasn’t as compatible with iPhones as much as we thought, we still felt that the Noot Products iPhone Car Charger was a great car phone charger. One of the things we liked was the warranty. We’ve had a lot of car phone chargers fail on us in the past so it was nice to know that the Noot Products iPhone Car Charger was supported by a 2 year hassle free warranty.
Overall, taking into consideration the price we paid and the experience we got, we would still give the Maxboost 4.8A/24W 2 Smart Port Car Charger 4.9 stars out of 5. It sucked that our charger blew out but we get what we pay for. It is still highly worth it.
The next car charger up for review is the JETech Dual Rapid USB Car Charger. This car charger is perhaps one of the best car chargers that we’ve had the pleasure of testing.
One of the first notable things you’ll see on the JETech Dual Rapid USB Car Charger is that it comes with two ports for charging. It also comes with prebuilt protection against over-heating and overcharging. In fact, one of favorite features about the JETech Dual Rapid USB Car Charger is that it’ll automatically stop charging when battery capacity is full.
If there was one area that we felt improvement could be used on, it would be the charge speed. While it was nice and convenient to be able to charge two devices at the same time, it wasn’t as quick as some of the other car chargers we’ve used. Nonetheless, we still feel that the JETech Dual Rapid USB Car Charger is one of the top iPhone car chargers in the market.
We had a great experience with the JETech Dual Rapid USB Car Charger, so we feel that it deserves 4.4 stars out of 5. If the charging speed was a little quicker, we would not hesitate to give it the full 5 stars it deserves.
The Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger is a testament to their Anker brand. Anker is known for making a variety of electronical accessories, with a large and powerful presence in power banks. The Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger was nothing short of our expectations.
The first feature that we were highly pleased with was the charge speed. At 24W charging, this makes the Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger one of the fastest USB car chargers in the market. Its MultiProtect safety system ensures the protection of its users, therefore making it certified safe.
With an 18 month warranty and quality customer service, we couldn’t help but give the car charger a try. However, we did experience a number of hiccups that are worth mentioning.
We noticed that when we charged two devices at the same time, sometimes our devices would stop charging. We noticed this when we were using our phones for GPS and noticed our battery going down, even with it plugged into the charger. We figured that it was faulty, and customer service was kind enough to replace it for us so it was no big deal.
We were not disappointed with the Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger. Although we had to replace our charger, our experience was certainly a positive one. We give the Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger 4.1 stars out of 5.
Not everyone is a fan of Apple so for those of us with Android phones, the AUKEY CC-S1 Car Charger is one of the best Android car chargers in the market. Its design, functionality, and price, simply cannot be beaten for the value it provides.
One of the first things you’ll notice about the AUKEY CC-S1 Car Charger is that it is small and compact. But the AUKEY CC-S1 Car Charger is much smaller than other Android car chargers, making it a very sexy charger in your car.
One of the features that we were initially attracted to is its intelligent charging technology. Its technology allows it to be compatible with many more devices than its main competitors are, which made this a highly attractive car charger. We were delighted because we were able to charge all our phones all at the same time, regardless of what phone we had.
The only downside, is its design. It’s a beautifully designed car charger but because it’s smaller than other car chargers, we’ve had the misfortune of having it stuck in our car. We were able to get it out, but it took much effort.
We felt that the AUKEY CC-S1 Car Charger was a great experience. However, because of our hiccup with it being stuck in the car, we decided to give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
The last charger on our list is the Getwow Universal Car Charger. This is one of the older models of car phone chargers because it comes with a cord, but we were actually happy it came with the cord.
With other USB car chargers, you have to always bring a USB cable to plug into the car charger for it to charge your phone. Because the Getwow Universal Car Charger comes with it pre-attached, we didn’t have to worry about the hassle of forgetting our USB cables. Although the form factor is outdated, it actually provided us more value.
We do want to make it clear that this car charger will not charge Apple iPhones. The cord is not designed to fit the Apple iPhone although the packaging does specify it is. This is not true and we want to make sure that our audience is aware of this.
We had an issue with customer service when we tried to return this for a refund. We requested it because of the non-compatibility with iPhones even though the product does say it is compatible. This isn’t our best experience but it did work well with our other phones so we give the Getwow Universal Car Charger 3 stars out of 5.
